Presentation at LSAC 2018

During the 2nd Annual Learning & Student Analytics Conference, held in the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, during October 22-23 2018, Cristina Alonso Fernández (UCM) presented some of the latests work done by the e-UCM research group regarding the application of Learning Analytics for Serious Games. The extended abstract presented was titled “Applications of Learning Analytics to assess Serious Games“. The abstract of the paper is the following: We summarize our experiences regarding three applications of Learning Analytics (LA) for Serious Games (SGs) with different purposes: A. Validate and deploy games in schools. The SG Conectado has been designed to address social problems (bullying and cyberbullying). B. Validate game design when information cannot be directly gathered from users. The SG Downtown was designed for improving independent life of users with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) who struggle with communication issues. C. Improve evaluation and deployment of games. The SG First Aid Game was already validated and data mining models were applied to predict knowledge after playing. All three games have been tested with target users in actual classrooms, as described in the following section. Results and implications of the use of analytics in those three scenarios are later explained.

Presentation at eMadrid seminar on “Serious Games”

Baltasar Fernández Manjón (UCM) has presented the work done with serious games in the field: «Using gamification to automate neuropsychological tests and investigate active ageing». The presentation was part of eMadrid seminar on serious games. The event was held in the Faculty of Computer Science of the Complutense University of Madrid, during the morning of 19th October 2018. Creative Play for Learning

Description: The event will touch on creativity and co-creativity through the medium of play and games and the design process of such activities. Game and play design should tap into our own experiences to enable a more holistic approach for designing new learning activities for our learners. And learners can have a deeper and a more collaborative learning experience through the process of creating and co-creating. Case studies will include the management of the co-creative process and evaluation at the Université Côte d’Azur (keynote from Professor Margarida Romero) and the engagement with teachers and learners at rural schools in Malaysia via the Newton-Funded CreativeCulture project (http://myCapsule.my).
