Beaconing was presented as part of several tools showcased during the Science Fair organized by the University of Thessaly, the 11th and 12th October in Larissa, Greece. This event was attended by many schools, gathering more than a total of 1500 students and teachers.

Baltasar Fernández Manjón (UCM) has participated in the “X Jornadas de Investigación en Innovación Docente de la UNED“, a conference on research in teaching innovation organized by the National Distance Education University (UNED) of Spain. In the presentation, Baltasar talked about the research and innovation carried out in the e-UCM Research Group regarding serious games, gamification and learning analytics, including the work done at BEACONING.

During the “Semana de la Cultura Digital” (Digital Culture Week) organized at the University of La Laguna in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, Baltasar Fernández Manjón (UCM) presented the work done on serious games and learning analytics. In particular, the latest application to the serious game Conectado to raise awareness on bullying and cyberbullying for students between 12 and 16 years old.

Manuel Freire (UCM) participated in the eMadrid seminar on “Learning Analytics“. The event was held in the Town Hall of Madrid (Spain) in the 23rd of November 2018. The presentation was titled “Analytics and learning in serious games”.
The abstract of the presentation was the following:
Serious games have multiple advantages from an educational point of view, since they promote active and situated learning while increasing student motivation. Analytics in serious games presents several differences when compared to other, less-interactive contents: interactivity results in increased volume of information, which offers several opportunities regarding how they can be analysed and acted upon. This talk describes the latest results in the e-UCM research group on serious games analytics to improve and evaluate learning as and when it happens.

PlayVisit has been presented in Tarragona at the 1st Smart City Heritage EU Congress as a leading tool for the promotion and dissemination of culture, cultural tourism and heritage through gamification and geolocation and Big Data technologies. Our co-founder Pau Yanez participated on October 25th in this congress full of interesting content related to Smart Cities and on how information and communication technologies can help the promotion of historical heritage to bring it closer to all citizens.
